You can buy hosting in Ghana without a bank card. LuminWeb accepts MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AT Money for Shared Hosting and WordPress Hosting, and the order has four steps: pick a plan, choose what to do about your domain, choose a billing cycle, then choose Mobile Money at checkout and follow the payment prompts.

To pay for hosting with mobile money, you need a wallet on one of those three networks with enough balance for the order total. If you are still deciding which provider to use, start with our guide on how to choose reliable web hosting in Ghana and come back when you are ready to order.

Which mobile money networks can you pay with?

Our web hosting in Ghana page sets out the options: you can pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AT Money or an international card.

We use Paystack to process Mobile Money payments on these networks.

If you would rather not pay with mobile money

A card works too. Our FAQs list Mobile Money, Visa or Mastercard and bank transfer as accepted payment methods.

Bank transfer is not among the options on the hosting page, so if you want to pay that way, contact our team and ask how before you place the order.

Before you pay: three things to check

  1. Whether your domain extension qualifies for the free domain. Shared Hosting includes a free domain, but the order form says free domain registration applies only to .com, .net, .org and .xyz. If you want a different extension, look it up on our domain registration page and expect to pay for it separately.
  2. Which parts of the order cannot be refunded. Under our refund policy, domain registration, SSL certificates and third-party add-ons are non-refundable. If you add a paid domain or an add-on to your order, that part stays with you even if you later cancel the hosting.
  3. Whether your wallet balance covers the total. The amount depends on the plan, the billing cycle and any extras you add. Note the total at checkout and make sure your balance covers it before you pay.

How to buy hosting in Ghana with Mobile Money, step by step

Check prices in the store as you go. The store has a currency chooser, so make sure prices are shown in Ghana cedis (GHS). The total shown at checkout is the amount you pay.

Step 1: Choose your plan

Decide which type of hosting you need, open its product page and select the Select Plan button. Each type comes in several plans that differ in storage, bandwidth and the number of sites you can host, and each product page lists exactly what every plan includes.

A control panel is the dashboard you use to manage files, email and databases on your hosting. If you are not sure which one suits you, our comparison of cPanel vs DirectAdmin explains the differences. If terms like bandwidth are new to you, our beginner’s guide to web hosting covers them.

In the store, each plan has an Order Now button. Select it on the plan you want.

Step 2: Choose your domain option

The first order step asks what you want to do about a domain. You will see three options:

  • Register a new domain. Choose this if you do not have a domain name yet. Search for the name you want, keeping in mind which extensions the free domain covers. Our guide on how to choose a domain name has practical tips if you are still deciding.
  • Transfer your domain from another registrar. Choose this if you already own a domain with another company and want to move it to LuminWeb along with your hosting.
  • I will use my existing domain and update my nameservers. Choose this if you want to keep the domain where it is registered. Nameservers tell the internet which server holds your website, so you will change them at your current registrar to point the domain at your new hosting.

If you already have a website running with another host, moving its files and database is a separate job from buying the hosting. Our guide to moving an existing site to a new host walks through it.

Step 3: Choose your billing cycle

The next screen is headed “Choose Billing Cycle”. This sets how often you pay. Depending on the plan, the options can include annual, biennial (every two years) and triennial (every three years) billing.

Each option shows its price, so check the one you pick against your wallet balance, then select Continue.

Step 4: Pay with Mobile Money at checkout

When you reach checkout, choose Mobile Money and follow the payment prompts.

Pay from the wallet you would want any refund to go back to. The refund section below explains why.

What happens after you pay?

Your hosting is activated automatically once the payment clears. There is no manual check on our side, so you do not need to wait for anyone to approve the order. You will know your hosting is ready in two ways: you receive a welcome email, and the service shows as Active in the Client Area.

What you do next depends on the choices you made while ordering:

  • If you chose to use your existing domain, work through these steps in order:
    1. Check whether a website or email already runs on this domain with another provider. If either does, do not change the nameservers yet. If neither does, go straight to step 4.
    2. If a website runs on this domain, move it first, using our guide to moving an existing site to a new host. Copying the site across leaves the old one running where it is.
    3. If you use email on this domain, contact our team before you switch, so the email records are set up on your new hosting first.
    4. Then change the nameservers at your current registrar. Your welcome email lists the nameservers to use. If you cannot find them, contact our team and we will give them to you.
Order of work when using an existing domain with new hosting: check for a website or email, move the site first, contact the team about email, then change the nameservers; with neither, go straight to step 4
  • If you are building a new site, install your software. Shared Hosting plans include a one-click installer for WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and other apps, and WordPress Hosting includes one-click WordPress installation. Our guide on how to install WordPress walks through the methods if you have not done it before.

What if your Mobile Money payment does not go through?

First, check that your wallet balance covers the full order total, including any domain or add-on you added.

If money has left your wallet and you have not had confirmation that your hosting is ready (no welcome email, and the service is not shown as Active in the Client Area), do not pay a second time. Because activation is automatic once a payment clears, this means something needs looking at. Contact our team, call +233 27 113 3116 or email support@luminweb.com, and give us the plan you ordered and the date and time you paid so we can look into it.

Can you get a refund if you paid with Mobile Money?

Yes. A refund on an order paid by Mobile Money goes back to the same wallet that paid. Our refund policy says refunds are processed through the original payment method or as account credit, per your preference, so you can ask for account credit instead if you plan to order again.

To request a refund, submit a support ticket to cancel your service, starting from the Client Area. If you cannot sign in, contact our team instead. Then allow 7 to 10 business days for the refund to be processed.

Three published terms decide what you can get back:

  • The web hosting in Ghana page states a money-back guarantee on shared hosting. The full terms are in our refund policy.
  • Separately, the refund policy says you may be eligible for a prorated refund for any unused portion of your service term.
  • The exclusions from the checklist above still apply: domain registration, SSL certificates and third-party add-ons are not refunded.
